Rinntech Inc. is a German company owned by Frank Rinn. He invented the Resistograph® and he holds several patents for his devices. His work has garnered many awards and he has published many articles on tree risk assessment and decay detection in wood.

Dr. Julian Dunster has extensive expertise in tree risk assessment, and detection of wood decay. He is the lead author of the new Tree Risk Assessment Manual (2013) published by the ISA and is a qualified instructor in the ISA Tree Risk Assessment qualification course. He was a member of the panel of experts that designed the Tree Risk Assessment Qualification (TRAQ), and the Best Management Practices – Risk Assessment publication. He has worked on decay detection in hundreds of trees as well as many different timber structures. These include the world renowned Kinsol Trestle on Vancouver Island, timber bridges, large wood stave culverts, as well as large timbers in older buildings, warehouses, and locomotive repair sheds.

Julian is also one of Canada’s foremost consulting arborists. He is a Registered Professional Forester, a Registered Professional Planner, a Certifed Arborist with the International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) and is an Honourary Life Member in the ISA and the Pacific Northwest Chapter of ISA. He is also a Registered Consulting Arborist in the American Society of Consulting Arborists. Julian has published many articles and several books, the most recent one being Trees and the Law in Canada in 2018.
